A FEW QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
A little more information

You don't need to have a clear explanation for how you're feeling, or everything figured out, to come to therapy. Sometimes you know exactly what's troubling you. Sometimes you just have a sense that the way things are isn't quite working.
Therapy can offer a space to understand what's going on and explore whether patterns in your thoughts or behaviours are keeping you stuck. Our initial sessions are an opportunity to talk things through and decide together whether working together feels like the right fit.
-
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and talk about what has brought you to therapy. We'll explore what has been going on, what you would like to be different, and begin to get a sense of what might be helpful to focus on.
There is no expectation to arrive knowing exactly what you want to say or where to begin. You can take your time, and we'll use the session to start making sense of things together and decide whether working together feels like the right fit.

Each session is 50 minutes.
We will usually meet weekly or fortnightly but can discuss this together.
-
The length of therapy varies from person to person. It will depend on what has brought you to therapy, what you would like to work towards, and the complexity of what you're experiencing.
We'll regularly review how things are going and whether therapy is helping you move towards your goals. Some people find a relatively focused piece of work is helpful, while others benefit from taking more time. We'll talk openly about this throughout our work together.
-
Many people I work with have had therapy before. You may already have a good understanding of yourself and why you respond to things in the way you do, but still find that some things are difficult to change.
You may also be coming to therapy from a new place in your life, with different things on your mind. What feels helpful can change over time, and working with someone new can bring another perspective. We can talk about what you've found helpful in the past, what you're hoping for now, and what you would like to be different.

Currently all sessions are online via Zoom.

My work is grounded in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, but I take an integrative approach and draw on other evidence-based therapies where helpful, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Compassion Focused Therapy.
My years of experience working in mental health, including as a Mental Health Nurse, also bring a broader perspective to my work. This experience has shaped how I understand psychological difficulties and the importance of looking beyond any one diagnosis or therapeutic approach.
CBT provides a strong foundation, but therapy will be tailored around you, your goals and what feels most helpful.

If you’d like to get in touch, you’re welcome to email me to arrange a complimentary 15-minute call. It’s a chance to briefly talk about what has brought you to therapy, ask any questions you might have, and get a sense of whether working together feels right for you.
