WHAT IS COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy that helps us understand the connections between our thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
Sometimes, the ways we think and respond to difficult situations can begin to keep us stuck. Together, we'll get curious about these patterns and consider what might be keeping them going.
From there, therapy focuses on experimenting with new ways of thinking and behaving, making changes that can help you move forward with more flexibility and confidence.
WHAT TO EXPECT
A space to slow things down and work out where to begin.
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and for you to tell me what has brought you to therapy. We'll begin to think about what you're experiencing, what you would like to be different, and whether working together feels like the right fit.
From there, we'll develop a shared understanding of what is going on and agree on a focus for therapy. Sessions are collaborative and active, we'll spend time exploring your thoughts, feelings and experiences, while also experimenting with practical changes between sessions.
There isn't a single way therapy is supposed to look and it isn’t one size fits all. We can adapt the work as we go, focusing on what feels most useful and keeping sight of what brought you here in the first place.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Mental health doesn't happen in isolation.
Our routines, sleep, movement, nourishment, relationships and environment can all influence how we feel and how much capacity we have to deal with life.
Alongside exploring your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, we can also consider the wider picture and how you are living day-to-day. Where it feels helpful, this might include thinking about the routines and habits that support your wellbeing - and those that may be making things more difficult.
I'm interested in how small, realistic changes can have a meaningful impact. Together, we can consider what might help you feel more supported in your day-to-day life, alongside the psychological work we do in therapy.
